Visual Identity

An illustration and risograph print project focused on brutalist architecture in the Greater Manchester area.

This was a personal project to celebrate a selection of the city and its borough’s brutalism. It took in buildings such as the Droylsden’s Concorde Suite, Stockport’s Stopford House and Hexagon Tower in Blackley (all in the 0161 area phone code). My lifelong love of Piccadilly Plaza led to the creation of the first risograph illustration and kicked off the rest of the exploration, and possibly with good timing too as several of the buildings have since been demolished or altered beyond recognition.

The illustrations formed a bound risograph print collection with a concrete badge as part of the front cover. This collection was exhibited and launched first at Idle Hands in Manchester and then went on to Bury Art Museum.
